The performing arts department of Rocktown High School (RHS) and Harrisonburg High School (HHS) is taking a field trip this year to Orlando! The students will participate in many workshops at Universal Studios along with exploring many of the parks that Universal Orlando has. The trip is almost a week long that includes overnight bus rides and long days at the parks. Many students who are going on this trip are excited.
Freshman Luella Shradley, who is in Concert Band and Choir, shares her hopes for when she goes to Universal.
“I was really excited that we had the opportunity to not only go the park and this amazing trip but also see the different art exhibitions” Shradley says
Shradley says that to pay for the trip, she was able to get a lot of support from her family members such as parents, grandparents, and cousins and also by fundraising. She adds on saying that the trip wasn’t too hard to pay for.
Shradley comments on how she is excited about seeing the parks.
“ I’m most excited about seeing the different parks. That was like the big thing, is to be able to see the different parks. I really want to see the Harry Potter park because both me and my mom love Harry Potter and it would just be really cool to see it.” Shradley says
This is not Shardley’s first overnight school trip. She says she was in marching band last fall so she had done some late nights and overnight trips in marching band
Shradley shares that what she is not most excited for is the bus ride. She comments saying that she knows it’s gonna be uncomfortable to sleep on the bus and she’s gonna have to deal with it.
Sophomore Ellie Ephraim, who participates in Dance 2 and String Orchestra, shares her anticipation for the upcoming trip
“When I first heard we were going to Orlando, I kind of called it. When they were like ‘We’re going on this big trip!’ and I was like ‘is it Orlando?’ And I say that because they went to Disney last time. So I just kinda knew it and called it.”
Ephraim explains that she didn’t believe the trip to Orlando was hard to pay for. Ephraim says that she got a lot of help from grandparents and fundraising to pay.
This is not her first overnight trip, she says she has done many overnight trips mainly with marching band
“I’m a little nervous about how long we’re away. It’s just a long time to be away from my family and my house. It’s gonna be really interesting because I’m just gonna be with a bunch of other teenagers for a good, long time. So I’m a little bit nervous but I’m also excited.”
“I’m excited for all the roller coasters. I really enjoy roller coasters and I think that’s one of the things I’m really excited about because last time I went to Universal I was really scared of roller coasters. So, I’m excited to try them this time.” Ephraim explains
“ I definitely want to go check out the How To Train Your Dragon section because that seems like that’s gonna be really cool.” She adds on
Ephraim says that she’s not very excited for the bus trip but has said that she and her friend had been making a plan for the bus trip. Looking at the bus trip, Ephraim says she’s not very happy about it because it’s a twelve hour road trip.
