
When I say high school journalism class to you, what is the first thing that comes to mind?
Probably the column I wrote. It was an opinion column and I spent a lot of time on it. I liked it because I could write in the first person and write what I wanted to write about.
What was the best trip journalism you took while in high school?
I went to New York in 2001. We went to Columbia University and learned a lot about journalism. I enjoyed it because I had never been to New York before.
What was the best story you ever wrote in journalism class?
I wrote a story my sophomore year about Young Life and I really liked that one. I had never been a part of Young Life but I was interested in it. I went around interviewing a lot of people to get different perspectives about Young Life. I learned a lot about Young Life even though I never joined.
Did you make any friends in journalism that you might not have made otherwise?
There were lots of friends that I would not have met. The biggest friend is probably Caite White. I am still friends with her now and we keep in touch.
How has taking a journalism class affected you later in life?
It made me interested in writing in a creative way. I found ways to express myself through writing This even helped my decision to major in English.
