The women of Rocktown competed in the “Valley District” meet yesterday at the newly minted course at the Frontier Culture Museum. The streaks were 3rd in the event, behind Spotswood and Turner Ashby. Medalists for the Lady Navy included juniors Brenna “Breeze” Cowardin (4th; 21:45), Laurie “Sizzle” Serrell (8th; 22:06), and senior Julie “J.R.” Raab (11th; 22:26). Also scoring for Harrisonburg was freshwoman “Little” Molly Campillo (20th) and junior Morgan “Give ‘Em” Heckman (30th). Rounding out the Varsity 7 on the day were senior Celia Ehrenpreis and junior Hannah Purcell.

Another outstanding race was had by up and coming freshie Lydia Ligouri, who was 8th for the squad yesterday (one second behind Purcell) and has now been in the top 10 for the last 2 races. She has a Serrell-like toughness that just needs some more miles and experience.

Fort didn’t even bother to run their top-5 runners, resting them instead for their County Meet this weekend, so I think we are 4th best, all things considered. Of course, none of it matters when the postseason starts. Most of these teams will have to worry about each other though in their new conference.

After some time for a few members in the training room, we raced and finished all 19 girls yesterday. Even though there was a lack of focus for this meet, because it was treated as a regular Wednesday, 14 of 19 ran season bests. The streaks will next compete at the City-County Championship next Wednesday at the Rockingham County Fairgrounds.
