Opinion: RGIII doesn’t live up to the hype

Opinion: RGIII doesnt live up to the hype

Robert Griffin III has been hyped up a lot this year, but he is not good. Everyone thought he was great because he won the Heisman his senior year. And although Baylor is in the Big 12, his schedule was relatively weak. He was putting up great stats against some scrub teams.

There are a lot of mediocre players that play terrible teams and put up some outstanding stats. A great example of this would be last saturday when ODU’s sophomore quarterback Tyler Heinicke set D-1 records in passing yards with 730, and completions with 55. Yes these are incredible stats, but it was against New Hampshire. You can’t fault the players for the teams they play, but we do not have to say that they’re the best player around.

Robert Griffin had a good first game against the crumbling New Orleans Saints who were without their head coach Sean Payton and without the defensive anchor Jonathan Vilma. Also, the Saints top three cornerbacks were not playing in that game. Robert Griffin put up 40 points against a team that is without a head coach and is now 0-3. Not very impressive. No Rookie quarterback has ever led their team to a record of 8-8 or better, so when RG3 leads the Redskins to a 9-7 record, then I will be impressed. Griffin also lost his home opener to the Bengals this past saturday in a game that was not close until the Redskins scored a few touchdowns in garbage time.

Also, RG3 was plopped down into a Redskins team that was already pretty good. They have a lot of veteran leadership on both offense and defense. Fellow rookie sensation Andrew Luck was drafted to the Colts, a team that is rebuilding. Luck does not have an offensive line and only one real receiving target.

So until Robert Griffin wins a lot more games and puts up consistent stats, I will continue to believe he is not that good, and he had just one good game against a bad team.
