Friday, March 25, the outdoor track team competed held their first meet against Alleghany High School, Blue Ridge High School, Broadway High School, Eastern Mennonite School, Page County High School, Riverheads High School, Rockbridge County High School, Spotswood High  School, Staunton High School and Stone Bridge High School. Sophomores Lena Blagg and Nathaniel Bunn and junior Evan Geisler were a few of the many students who participated in the meet.

Blagg ran the co-ed 4×800 meter relay and the girl’s 4×400 meter relay. The girl’s team placed third in the 4×400 meter relay with a time of 4:51.50. Bunn ran the 4×800 meter relay and the 4×400 meter relay. The boy’s team placed fifth in the 4×800 meter relay with a time of 9:24.81 and placed sixth in the 4×400 meter relay with a time of 3:55.89. Geisler ran in the 4×200 meter relay and the 4×400 meter relay. The boy’s team placed fourth in the 4×200 meter relay with a time of 1:39.65.

Placing was exciting for Blagg.

“Personally I think [the meet] went really well. My relay teams got first place and third place. And [for] a lot of the runners, this was their first meet,” Blagg said.

Bunn was also excited about doing well at the meet, putting in effort to win was important to him.

“I think [the meet] went pretty good. I was happy with how my races went. I think I did the best in the 4×800 because I felt good about the effort I put into that race,” Bunn said.

Geisler wished he had more time to practice as a relay team before the meet, however, he felt he did pretty well.

“I feel like as an individual I did pretty solid. I have high standards for myself, but as a team, I feel like we could’ve worked out more. We didn’t really practice much beforehand on our handoffs and everything, but I had a pretty good time. It was rough, but we’ll get a hang of it, there’s still another season,” Geisler said.

With the weather being an issue for many of the runners, some, like Blagg, were still able to push through and perform well in her events.

“This meet I think I did [the best in] the 4×800 because during the 4×400 it was really cold and I was already tired, and I just had a lot more competition and motivation during the 4×800,” Blagg said.

A challenge that Geisler faces when running in meets is the end, as he has to push himself to complete the race.

“The ending of the race [affected how well I ran] because I’m looking at the finish line, [and] I feel like my mind tells my body that it’s over, but I have to keep pushing,” Geisler said.

One of Bunn’s favorite parts of the meet was running in the 4×400 meter relay because of the competition.

“I [enjoyed] running the 4×400 because it always feels like a very competitive race,” Bunn said.

To ensure that Blagg performs better in the next meet, she plans on attending all of the practices and working on pushing herself more.

“[Something I plan on working on to make sure I do better in the next meet is] coming to all the practices and working hard, not slacking off and really pushing myself to do my best at the meet,” Blagg said.

Similar to Blagg, Geisler also plans on attending all the practices and working on what he thinks he needs to improve on.

“[To make sure I do better in the next meet, I’ll] always [go] to practice and work on what I need to work on. Especially [with] the blocks and pacing myself to finish the race,” Geisler said.

Like Geisler, Bunn also feels like he needs to work on maintaining a stable pace throughout his races.

“I need to work on pacing myself so that I can continue to have a constant pace throughout the race,” Bunn said.
