Tuesday Oct. 15 was not only the second of two pink out games for the HHS volleyball teams, but it was also Teacher Appreciation Night. Players from the JV and varsity teams each chose a teacher to recognize for making an impact in their life. JV team member freshman Quetzalli Arteaga-Vazquez recognized her English teacher Mr. Reinhart.

“I choose Mr. Reinhart because he teaches my favorite subject, and he is a helpful teacher. My grade in his class is pretty good, but it is hard because I have to balance everything with volleyball and soccer,” Arteaga-Vazquez said.

This is Mr. Reinhart’s first year teaching at Harrisonburg High School. He teaches regular and honors English 9.

“I have seen Quetzalli succeed in volleyball. I went to a game this week,” Reinhart said.

Sophomore Ava Rath also plays on the JV volleyball team. She recognized her biology teacher Mr. Bair.

“I choose Mr. Bair because he made me feel comfortable my freshman year,” Rath said. “Mr. Bair helped[ me]get situated in high school, and he knew when I [needed] help with something.”

Seeing Rath perform outside the classroom environment was different for Bair.

“It was awesome to see her interacting with her teammates as a leader,”   Bair said.
