Boys soccer snatches conference title from Handley during penalty kicks

The boys soccer team stole the conference championship right out from under John Handley High Schools’ nose this Monday.

The Streaks played a tight game with Handley throughout the entire game; every goal scored by one team was returned by the other, leaving the final score of the game 2-2 before going into overtime.

During overtime, neither team scored during the two five minute halves, pushing the teams into golden goal. After the ten minutes were up, the Streaks were still at a stalemate with Handley, taking the teams into a competition of penalty kicks.

Both teams missed their first penalty kicks and hit their second and third. During the fourth shot by Handley, the Streaks’ goalie senior Toby Campbell blocked the shot, giving the Streaks the opportunity to move ahead and win. Senior Roberto Gonzalez-Cavazos saw the chance and took it, scoring the final goal, winning the Streaks the conference championship.
