On April 12, the boys tennis team was on the courts participating in warm-up drills when Robert E. Lee’s bus pulled into the parking lot 40 minutes late. The tennis team ended up defeating Robert E. Lee with an overall score of 6-3. HHS won all 6 of their singles matches, and lost in the 3 doubles matches they played. Peter Kim, a senior playing 3rd seed for the team, thought the team performed particularly well against Robert E. Lee.

“I think our team as a whole performed very well, our 1 and 2 [seeds] always are reliable, and even our bottom seeds did very well against Lee,” Kim said. Kim was also very satisfied with his personal match against Lee.

“I think that I played my best of this season. I was very confident in my game, even though we didn’t have Karan [Chalishajar] who is normally our number 3 seed, so I played number 3 that match and I won 10-2. I mean going into it I actually wasn’t feeling very well, I felt pretty sick, but I was actually surprised that I was able to keep up with my opponent,” Kim said. Number 2 seed Joaquin Orozco won 10-2, 4th seed Theodore Yoder won 10-4, 5th seed Sam Heie won 10-8 and 6th seed Tobias Yoder won 10-2.

The number one seed, junior Jason Muan, won his match 10-0 and explains how he felt during his match.

“They weren’t really good, but I don’t think most people would have beat me that day cause I felt really good,” Muan said. Muan was actually a little disappointed with the level of competition with other local schools.

“I really don’t enjoy it that much, cause it’s not that competitive around here and I wish it was a lot more competitive,” Muan said.

After the 6 matches of singles tennis, HHS transitioned to three doubles matches against Lee. Tobias Yoder and Alex Osinkosky were the first set of doubles and lost 7-10, John Collier and Noah Pope were the second set of doubles and lost 8-10 and Weston Hatfield and Nathan McIntire were the third set of doubles and fell short in their match 2-10.
