With their album, 5 Seconds of Summer, skyrocketing to the top of the charts when released in June 2014, fans from around the world have supported them non-stop. As the dates for their first ever tour, Rock Out With Your Socks Out, were revealed, fans around the state went wild when it was announced that the band would be heading to Virginia. Tickets sold out in an instant by fans who were knew that this might be a once in a lifetime experience for them.

As the Jiffy Lube Live amphitheater slowly filled with eager fans waiting for their idols to appear on stage, the opening band Hey Violet performed three original songs from their latest EP and two covers, including Taylor Swift’s hit single Blank Space. From their energetic, pop-rock songs that made you want to get up on your feet, to the unrehearsed banter that took place between songs, they were the perfect opening act for 5 Seconds of Summer.

After about a thirty minute wait, the crowd roared as the countdown began on the big screen for the band to come out on stage. As the lights shut off, drummer Ashton Irwin walked on stage and sat by his drums. I anticipated that the show was about to begin and the other boys would walk on stage soon, and so they did. Tears streamed down girls’ faces as Calum, Michael, Luke, and Ashton were all on stage singing their first song of the night, End Up Here.

The night was filled with rock music and dancing until you were out of breath. So much love was shown for the fans in between songs as each member had something positive to say about the crowd in Bristow. The band even read some hilarious signs that fans made on the big screen. A major highlight of the show was when 5 Seconds of Summer chose a random fan from the floor and brought her up on stage. At this time, they would usually let her/him play the bass with the help of Calum. The thing is, the fan that they chose already knew how to play the bass and she played “Boulevard of Broken Dreams” by Green Day while Hood sang along.

Sadly, the boom of the music came to an end and 5 Seconds of Summer had finished performing their nineteen songs. Overall the crowd was powerful and full of energy. The realization started to set in that the concert was over. The ears of many fans were buzzing as they made their way out of the amphitheater and into their car. This concert was one of the most pumped-up concerts I have ever been to. It was full of energy, music and laughs which made it a memorable experience.
