Prom will be held May 17th at the Elks Lodge in downtown Harrisonburg. According to prom committee member Alexis Whitfield, students can expect a great time at the event.

“Tthe prom committee] has some good music picked out,” Whitfield said.

Prom committee officers for the junior class are Kara Simmons, Alexis Whitfield, Ananda McAfee, Natalia Alcantara, Katherine Komara and Kali Abebe. The committee had their first meeting in July, but did not officially begin then.

“We really started [planning] in November,” Whitfield said.

Some things students can expect at the ‘Luau Paradise’ themed prom are tiki torches, Hawaiian skirts and other island-type attire.

“We’re really trying to get a photo booth too,” Whitfield said.

Prom tickets are on sale for $30. Students cannot purchase a prom ticket unless all school fees are paid. This includes library fees, parking tickets, Dual Enrollment payments etc. After prom tickets will be on sale for $15, but the details for the event are to be determined.

“We still have to make plans for the event. My mom will be starting that this weekend,” Whitfield said.
