Opinion: Valentine’s day – save the love for another day

Valentine’s Day is nice once a year but, it’s straight up stupid to me. I think this is because it’s usually the one day couples act unusually nice to each other and buy gifts. As if they couldn’t do it other times in the year? It’s like they only appreciate each other for a day which isn’t enough time. Like Mother’s Day, you should appreciate your mother every day, not once a year. This would make friends who are in a relationship spend the whole day with their other half and forget about the single friend (sometimes). It’s aggravating simply because they certainly put their other half in front of you. I hate how people appreciate others for only a day.

And what about the single people out there on Valentine’s Day? It feels awkward to not receive any love on that day (except from family members and some friends). Since everywhere single people look that day, there are signs saying something about your other half that a single person doesn’t have. It’s really irritating having to look everywhere and see stuff relating to having another half.  Every TV show or commercial has something to do with love, which will get annoying once in a while, and it makes the single people feel uncomfortable. I am single and it bothers me! I’d always have to look for channel that doesn’t remind every second about having another half. It makes me feel like I want to go out and find someone to spend my day with but again, my friends may be with their other half.

It also  makes me upset that couples think it’s so cute to make out in public! It’s not so stop it. Just because it’s Valentine’s day, that doesn’t mean it’s a free pass to make out for 15 minutes in a parking lot. It’s not cute and it won’t ever be cute. I usually have an urge to slap someone or hurt them because they’re making single people feel bad and lonelier than just seeing a couple being nice and giving each other gifts. It doesn’t matter whether they’re my best friend or my sister, I’ll still be really mad if they kiss their other half in my face.
