I grew up in a sporty family, but more importantly, I grew up in a baseball family. I played ball through elementary school, always playing for the baseball teams instead of the softball teams because I wanted to compete with the boys. I watched all of my older brother’s baseball games from the time I could walk until now while he plays in college. Growing up inthis environment makes me an obvious fan of baseball movies. I’m a sucker for Bull Durham, A League of Their Own, The Sandlot, The Rookie, Field of Dreams… I think you get the point.

Recently I saw the movie Trouble with the Curve. It follows the path of a longtime widower scout, played by Clint Eastwood, and the daughter, Amy Adams, that tagged along with him to games as she grew up. Eastwood is beginning to lose his sense of sight, and the movie shows how detrimental this could be to a baseball scout. Luckily, you have love interest Justin Timberlake to lighten up the movie with some humor. This movie is technically accurate, which I always think is essential when it comes to movies about the game. Clint Eastwood, Amy Adams, and Justin Timberlake shine in this movie. They do an excellent job of portraying real characters that are easy to relate to, and we, as viewers, get attached to.

If you like baseball movies, and aren’t afraid to get invested in the characters of a movie, Trouble with the Curve is a movie you will enjoy!
