Mama is unlike other scary movies in that it wasn’t insanely gory, and it had a plot. Mama had a few good scares throughout and it was made even creepier by the little girls that the movie was centered on. Directed by Andres Muchietti, starring Oscar nominee Jessica Chastain and Nikolaj Coster-Waldau (Game of Thrones), Mama is about two little girls left in a seemingly abandoned cabin, that is actually inhabited by an 18th century ghost. The ghosts starts caring for the girls and becomes their “Mama.” The girls are then found by their uncle and are put into his and his girlfriend’s care. Freakiness ensues when Mama doesn’t want to let her children go. The movie has some scary moments that startle you, as well as a surprising ending that might catch you off guard. Mama is a good movie to watch with people who are not normally accustomed to watching horror movies because it has substance, and can be enjoyed as a whole story, not just to get a good scare.
