Sweatpants in public is trend that needs to stop. It is not cute, it looks unprofessional, and gives the wearer a sense of imminent failure. Many people disagree with me, saying things like “They’re so comfortable!” or “They’re forcing me to go school, so why can’t I wear what I want?” Well, I’ll tell why not.
Cute clothes makes the wearer feel better about themselves, a feeling that increases their self-confidence. An increase in confidence will automatically produce better results in their personal, academic, and professional spheres. Someone who is wearing a cute skirt to an important interview is more likely to succeed than a person in sweats and a hoodie. It’s just common sense, dress like you know what you’re talking about and instant respect will follow.
The main offenders of this unspoken no-no is the youngins, the ones twenty and under. Whatever happened to the 3 piece suit? The classy dresses, and jewels? I watch old movies and I am ashamed to be a part of a generation who won’t even put on real pants to walk out in public.
I am surprised by the number of parents who let their children walk out the house looking like a gray blob of fabric. “Don’t you want your children to succeed? Cause they sure won’t dressed like a snowman,” I always think to myself. Well, if they won’t do it for their mother, maybe they will clean up their act for their future spouse. A women walking down the street will pick a man dressed well over a man in sweats any day. It’s just common sense. For one, she can actually see his body, as opposed to looking at him and thinking, “I think he has arm muscles, but hmmm I’m not sure…” A spiffy looking gentleman portrays the feeling of luxury and good taste, and what female isn’t attracted to that?
This is a call to arms! We need to stop this hideous growing trend in it’s tracks before it gets out of hand! Help the younger generation advance in the world by preventing the uniform that is sweeping the streets: sweatpants.
