However, this year, it was different. We saw Rise of the Guardians, a movie that brings together North (Santa Claus), the Easter Bunny, the Sandman, and the Tooth-fairy. They were dubbed the “Guardians” over the children of the world. The movie follows the Guardians as they welcome a new member to their pack – Jack Frost – as well as a fight against their enemy Pitch Black (the Boogieman). Now, I figured this would be a typical, cutesy, good for ages 3 to 12 sort of film. I was pleasantly surprised.

Rise of the Guardians had a great mix of mature and age-appropriate concepts. The comedy was funny for whatever age, and, being a child who believed in everything mystical until an age that will not be mentioned in this article, it was wonderful. The images and animation were on point, and the attention to detail in the settings are unmatched in any other animated movies that I’ve seen recently. It was the perfect mix of contented mood we get from holiday movies, and the joy we receive from kid movies. I walked out of the theatre almost more satisfied than when we saw the Incredibles.
