The Boston Red Sox and New York Yankees are historically two of the most decorated teams in baseball history. Their rivalry is one of the most, if not the most coveted sports rivalry of all time. Now some would try and say that the Cowboys, Giants and Redskins all share a bitter rivalry, but that does not compare to late October baseball at Fenway Park (Red Sox stadium). No one cares about hockey and soccer and tennis, they’re just too boring. Now I do have to admit that while soccer is quite boring, the Real Madrid vs. Barcelona is a rivalry that will never grow old. Also, Peyton Manning vs. Tom Brady, two of the best quarterbacks of this decade, is a spectacle that no one wants to miss.
But I have attended a Red Sox vs. Yankees game in October with the AL East championship on the line. There is nothing else like it: the atmosphere of the stadium, the intensity of the crowd, the outcome of the game hanging on every pitch. One element that makes this rivalry so great is the hatred that the Red Sox and Yankees players have for each other. There is a bench-clearing brawl in almost every series! Everyone remembers the scrap between Red Sox catcher Jason Varitek and Yankees third baseman Alex Rodriguez. Although the rivalry was not as exciting this year due to a very bad Red Sox team, this rivalry will continue to draw fans and the league’s attention for many years to come.
