Pitch Perfect is a movie about a college acapella group (the Bellas) trying to recruit new members, having lost some members that graduated the previous year, and their struggles as the group attempts to rise above their embarrassment from a second place in a national competition.
Pitch Perfect main character is Bella, who in her freshman year was forced to go to Barden University by her dad, who gives her a year to find a club she enjoys and find friends. As the agreement goes, if Bella is successful, then her dad will let her quit college and become what she’s always wanted to be: a DJ. Bella does this, and joins the acapella group. Soon after, she falls for Jesse, a singer in rival group the Treble Makers, which is strictly forbidden. On top of that, Bella is trying to get the Bellas to change their set list from more traditional songs to popular 21st century music. Will Beca be a good fit for the Bellas or will she walk away?
Overall, I thought Pitch Perfect was an okay movie, but it had moments where I caught myself thinking, “why did I pay $10.50 for this movie?”. The music was amazing, but some of the actors need to work on their acting skills. When I first saw the trailer, I thought I was going to be laughing hysterically in the theater, after the impression the trailer gave of Fat Amy. The movie was disappointing because most of the humor came from Fat Amy, but not so much any of the other characters.
I would give this movie a 3 out 5 stars. Although some parts were hilarious, the bad parts made me want to walk out of the theater rather than stay.
