Opinion: OnLive streams games easily

OnLive is a service that has gained some popularity recently, but what is it?

It’s a service like Steam where you can buy games for your PC.

However, there is a BIG difference between OnLive and Steam.

When you buy a game from Steam, the game gets downloaded on your hard drive and you play the game from there. Whereas OnLive streams games to your computer through your internet connection in a process known as “cloud gaming”. It’s like streaming a video from YouTube, except it’s a whole game. All the graphics, the sounds, the action, is being streamed through the internet.

The benefit to cloud gaming is you can play games on many different devices. You can save a game on one computer and start right where you left off on another computer, and it doesn’t stop at computers either. OnLive is available on smartphones and tablets. You can also buy a microconsole so you can hook up OnLive to a TV.

The OnLive service works really well, if you have a good internet connection. The games can get a little laggy but they are playable. They can be played on a mouse and keyboard, an Xbox 360 controller or a controller that you can buy from OnLive website.

OnLive is also a community, much like Xbox Live. You can have online multiplayer games and voice chat, as well as send messages and friend requests.

More features in OnLive include the Arena, where you can watch someone else play a game in real time as well as voice chat with them. Another feature is Brag Clips where you can record the last ten seconds of gameplay if you were to do something awesome or find some crazy glitch.

One downside to OnLive is the game selection. While there are many great games in the marketplace, there aren’t that many games to choose from compared to other services.

Overall, OnLive is a really good service. Unfortunately, you’re going to need a pretty good internet connection for games to run smoothly and even if you do have a really fast connection, the games can still be a bit laggy but, like I said, the games are still playable.

I recommend at least checking it out. The service is free to join and the desktop app is also free. You can also get a free 30 minute time trial with the games which I think is enough time to make a decision.
