Opinion: Priscilla Ahn a refreshing artist

Opinion: Priscilla Ahn a refreshing artist
Ahn has released the album "A Good Day."

The soothing voice of Priscilla Ahn can only be described in one way: amazing! From her cover songs, to her “A Good Day” album, she delivers a feel good soundtrack you don’t get sick of. The American born singer grew up in South Korea for most of her childhood, but you could never tell by her voice. She has no accent, and no Korean influences in her album. The tone of her voice is perfectly light and pleasant.
Her music reminds me of lullabies that aren’t restricted to slow beats. Most of her songs start off slow and pick up tempo in the chorus. Her ukulele is one of the key instruments featured in her “A Good Day” album. She is also her own songwriter.

Her voice is angelic, you would not believe that she’s in her late twenties. She was inspired by her college professor to make a career in music and move to California. In her song, “Dream”, you get hit with a nostalgic feel. The lyrics are deep, but easy to understand. It talks about her childhood and her later journey through life.

The only downside I see with Ahn is that she can be compared to Owl City. She has no electronic melodies in her soundtrack, but after a while you get overwhelmed with her cutesy lyrics and little girl persona, which is what happens with Adam Young of Owl City.

I am currently in love with her cover, “I’ll never smile again”, originally done by Frank Sinatra. It’s hard to live up to Sinatra’s charisma in songs, and his milky voice but Ahn makes it her own. I like her tribute to him and I would share it with any Sinatra lover.

I strongly recommend Priscilla Ahn to people who are fans of light guitar, simple lyrics (that are also clever), a soothing voice that sounds like butter, and being put into a positive mood after listening to music.
