Opinion: Breaking Dawn Premiere a let down

Last week, fans of the Twilight series rejoiced as the first part of the final installment, Breaking Dawn, premiered. The franchise is milked for all its worth in this movie, which follows the life of Bella Swan following her marriage to the vampire Edward Cullen.
I was shocked at how fast the movie degenerated from sicky-sweet sap story to all-out horror. Her pregnancy (spoiler!) and birth is nothing short of gross, with one scene in which Bella’s spine audibly snaps in half. The acting, overall, is robotic.

Robert Pattinson (Edward) and Kirsten Stewart (Bella) downplay their roles in favor of Taylor Lautner, who acts as the hotheaded werewolf Jacob Black. He appears to be the only character with discernible emotions in the movie other than sober melancholy. The thrilling climax occurs in a clash between vampire and werewolf for reasons I didn’t quite understand. However, it quickly falls flat when the conflict is resolved too easily.

Overall, the movie works too hard to appeal to the die-hard fans of the series. Outsiders will likely find next to nothing to enjoy from the movie.

Rating: 1.5 out of 5 stars

You don’t know what you’re talking about. Obviously you’re a hater of the Twilight Saga!
