Since its first show ten seasons ago, American Idol has taken the United States and the world by storm. It has been one of the most popular shows on TV, creating national singing stars seemingly overnight. The process of combing America for the next great singer has brought delight to millions around the world. Yet in recent seasons, ratings have been down and popularity has slipped. Without Simon Cowell, many thought the show would continue to flop. But this season has proved all the nonbelievers wrong, primarily with the help of Steven Tyler.

It’s all about the charisma of Steven Tyler. Tyler is laid back; the epitome of cool. The show was starting to wobble off the tracks and Steven Tyler brought it down to Earth with his wily sense of humor and charm. He always has exactly the right praise for a fantastic performance or just the right criticism for a less than stellar contestant. The addition of Tyler has caused the other judges to excel. He has reawakened the spirit in Randy and drawn Jennifer Lopez away from her old diva self and more towards a likeable role model. Tyler has his own style that adds to the sense of the show. The rock singer form Aerosmith dresses outrageously and is more vicarious than ever.

Tyler is a far better judge than people could have ever imagined. Ellen DeGeneres and Kara DioGuardi were simply not right for the show. DeGeneres is a talk show host and DioGuardi did not mesh well with the system. Steven Tyler has fit in wonderfully. His background in music and performing makes him the perfect person to judge this type of competition. Tyler does not try too hard to make points or do foolish things. He is quite reserved, despite his extravagant personality. He adds just the right amount of spice to the show, something the previous two judges were lacking. Although he has said some things that required public apologies, the bad-boy Steven Tyler has not shown up to disrupt anything.

Tyler has had a great effect on American Idol. Before he joined the panel, the show was floundering in the water. The future was not very bright at all. However, Steven Tyler has changed all of that. The show is ever gaining in its ratings and that is thanks in large part to Tyler. He provides the flavor that people want to see. With his help, the show has become popular yet again.

For a while, the future of American Idol looked grim. Paula Abdul and Simon Cowell had fled for the hills and the talent was not very good. Idol needed a spark to rejuvenate itself and become a hit once again. Steven Tyler is this spark and with his help Idol has a completely different tone, a tone quirky wildness to it. The success Tyler has brought back to Idol shows what a character he truly is.

Haven’t seen him on the show yet, but his stage presence is amazing no matter where he stands (or sits). I think vivacious is the word you want.
