Opinion: Winter superior to Summer

Summer and winter are either the most sought after or most hated seasons of the year. Generally, there is no middle ground. If you prefer winter, then the heat of June to September gets to you and likewise for summer. After many debates, I have concluded that winter is indeed the best of the seasons.

The most important reason for this being true is that you can layer your clothes. In the summer, you are hot no matter what, even if you are just wearing a t-shirt and shorts, or even no shirt on those sweltering days. In the winter however, if you get cold, you can just throw on another fleece, flannel, jacket, sweatshirt, or whatever suits your fancy. Also, if you get a little too warm, you can always just peel off a layer, a process that is restricted by the already scarce wearing of clothing during the summer.

Winter is also much better than summer because of the snow. Snow is the teenager’s Holy Grail, giving them snow days and endless fun outside of school. From sledding to snowball fights to snowman making, this winter specialty is sought after throughout the season.

Speaking of snow, skiing and snowboarding is the most important reason for liking the winter season. Nothing beats being on the mountain bright and early with freezing air nipping at your cheeks, slipping and sliding the troubles off life away down the mountain.

As you can see, there is no doubt that winter is better than summer. Nobody wants to sweat it out in humid, 100 degree weather when they can choose their perfect level of warmth by layering. Also, any snow from light dustings to blizzards trumps a late afternoon thunderstorm during the summer. It is undeniable that winter is the best time of year.
