For any high school senior who is applying to college, the Common Application is nearly a saving grace. When beginning to make overwhelming college decisions, the application process seems like quite a daunting task. As a college-bound senior, I can safely say that the majority of us hope that our prospective schools accept the Common App.
The Common Application website does have its flaws. For instance, before filling out any information, the applicant must first choose which schools he or she wishes to apply to. For seniors who are more-than-slightly confused about their future, this can be one of the most difficult parts of applying, and it would be nice to be able to leave this decision until the very end, rather than have it be the first step. Even with this difficulty in mind, www.commonapp.org is a fairly user-friendly site with straight-forward instructions for the application process. It allows applicants to save their work and return to it later, as attempting to fill out an entire application in one sitting certainly can not be good for a teenager’s mental health.
Once information has been filled out, it is automatically shared with the other colleges on the applicant’s list, a feature which saves applicants hours of tedious work. Another convenience is being able to send requests for recommendations to teachers and guidance counselors directly online. As some schools require supplemental forms, they are available on the Common App website, taking out yet another complication of the application process.
All in all, the Common Application helps ease students through a stressful process in their education, and makes applying to college seem more achievable.
