State of Affairs action packed, thrilling
January 16, 2015
State of Affairs is a new show on NBC starring Katherine Heigl. Her character, Charleston Tucker, is a CIA analyst who gives daily briefings to the President of the United States on the top ten threats facing the nation. Tucker was also the fiancee to the President’s son, who was killed in an ambush a few months before the show takes place. The show occurs in modern day and intertwines the news of the day into the show. It has referenced the beheadings of ISIS and the rise of Boko Haram in Africa.
This is Heigl’s comeback to television since leaving her character as Izzie Stevens on ABC’s medical drama Grey’s Anatomy. Since her last television job, Heigl has done multiple movies such as Killers, Life as We Know It, and One for the Money. Her most famous acting job since Grey’s Anatomy was her television movie Knocked Up, costarring with Seth Rogen.
State of Affairs is a high action television show. I enjoy the show because it is an action movie squeezed into a hour time slot. It has at least one gun fight per episode and is fast paced. When watching the show my heart has skipped a beat or two. It is at some times too graphic for me, so I would say the show is geared towards more mature audiences.
This show has had some mixed reviews. Rotten Tomatoes gave the show a 26 percent and Metacritic gave the show 43 percent. These ratings are harsh. The show has its flaws, like the need for character development and a more linear storyline, but it is still a good show. TV.com gave the show a 5.9 out of 10 and IMDb gave it a 6 out of 10. Overall I believe the show will be a success.
