App of the Week: Much doge, very 2048

It’s the best of both worlds.

Rafael Snell-Feikema, Online Editor-in-Chief

I have a complex relationship with memes. On one hand, I do think that they’re an interesting development in terms of internet culture, and they can be an efficient way to pseudo-humorously depict information. On the other hand, they tend to be dragged down into the lowest, most uninteresting and repetitive forms of “humor” the world has ever seen. They can be uniquely and almost astoundingly annoying.

Thus it’s a little bit odd that I support the development of Doge2048. It’s definitely unique: a combination of the very popular flash game and app 2048 and the equally popular doge meme. It works, however, because in the congruence of these two pieces of internet culture one can find an interesting postmodern irony of overabundance. It is the same thing as dogecoin – it mocks the same culture that it adds to, and as 2048 is also just a really good game (you use the arrow keys or swipe numbers in a grid until you get to 2048…it’s better than it sounds), I support it.

That being said, don’t start playing this. It will consume your life.

Editor’s note: don’t 2048 and drive. We wish we were joking.
