Youtuber Joey Graceffa has finally released the first season to his web series, Storytellers! A group of friends have been in car accident that changes their lives, as they become more and more aware about the supernatural forces around them. When each episode is released the characters learn more about each other and these celestial beings.

Each episode displays the on going plot from each character’s viewpoint. You see one episode and then in the next one you go back a little into the previous one with another character and then go further into the plot with that same one. It starts off with all the main characters around a campfire and then the character’s whose turn is to “tell the story” starts. After introducing their story the screen darkens and they show the actual episode.

The final episode to this season was a big disappointment; everything was too rushed. I was just mad the whole time watching it because they introduced new things that should have their own episode. Instead of piling all of this new information in a sixteen minute video, you want to separate them all so the audience can process everything. In just that last episode three or four others could have been made to separate everything with explanatory scenes to how all them happened.

Although the plot was fairly interesting I can’t take Graceffa (playing Hunter Crowley) serious. As a subscriber to his Youtube channel, I’m used to seeing Graceffa being a silly, loud, happy guy. Watching him playing such a serious and mysterious role is like I’m watching another one of his youtube videos when he mocks people. Graceffa usually posts vlogs and collaboration videos on his channel, so you see him being in his natural state. Since he has been doing this for many years you get used to him being weird and loud and he seems like a regular person. The character Hunter Crowley is meant to be a secretive and grim person when Graceffa is anything but that! It seems out of place to see Graceffa attempting to take on this role.

The other actors, such as Jessica Hu from Awkward and Pierson Fode who guest starred in Hello Ladies, are able to play their roles as if they are living the part. The other actors are the only reason why I proceeded to watch the 10 minute videos.

Senior Amber Jamieson has watched some of the of the episodes and finds that not just Graceffa, but all the actors could be doing a better job.

“I think they could have acted better, I kind of got bored as I watching it,” Jamieson said.

Jamieson felt that Jake Thomas, playing Finn Shah, and Jeff Corbett, playing Mr. Crowley, could use the most improvement.

“Since Jake Thomas has been acting since he was little I expected more from him. Jeff Corbett could have done better because he didn’t convince me in the earthquake scene,” Jamieson said.

Even though Graceffa created this web series, I feel that he should have also looked for an actor to play Hunter Crowley. Graceffa doesn’t fit his own character’s style and role. He can’t play pensive deliberate role without making it seem phony. When Graceffa is off camera and it is directed to another character the show becomes more interesting. Like when Hu is able to play her cute awkward character and keep me interested to find out what comes next. The main downfall to the web series is the actor playing the main character. The entire cast, besides Graceffa, are professional actors that are saving this “show”.
