Across the nation, teenage girls are in a frenzy over the release of One Direction’s music video for their song, “Story of My Life”. Sophomore Jaymie Inouye, one of such girls, first saw the video on the day of it’s release.

“I was alone in my room and for most of the video I had a smile on my face. I almost cried; tears definitely came to my eyes and maybe they spilled,” said Inouye. She admitted to watching the video approximately six times. I have watched it twice and enjoyed it thoroughly; I would recommend it to any adolescent teenage girl with a fetish for attractive young men.

The video starts with the boy band developing pictures from their childhoods. The pictures fade into copied poses of the boys and their families now. The idea is creative and serves effectively as a reinforcement of the boy band’s image of five sweethearts who love their mothers.

“It takes place in a [warehouse] and they’re all in old timey clothes. It’s called “Story of My Life” so there are pictures showing their lives, scenes of them as kids and then now with family,” Inouye said.

She couldn’t decide which part was her favorite.

“That’s so hard [to choose]. I love when they all have pictures of when they were little and then now when they’re older, and when they’re interacting with family,” Inouye said.

I found one moment at the end of the video particularly sweet. A picture of Harry Styles is of him cuddling with his mom on a couch. The picture fades into the modern replication and Harry moves away as he sings to his mother. A shot of her profile has a fuzzy background and when it clears, Harry is sitting on the ground gazing adoringly at his mom.

“It may be the most beautiful thing,” Inouye said.
