Students and football player’s families gathered at the HHS parking lot for pre game fun & food for the first home game of the season against Winchester’s John Handley High School.

Corn hole, grilling and soda were offered at the student section of the tailgate, while the football player’s families organized a potluck at the drop off area.
Students were optimistic for the first tailgate of the season. Freshman Isiah Burns felt welcomed by it all.

“It’s awesome. You get to play games and hang out with your friends,” Burns said.

Nala Barber participated in the football family’s tailgate. She felt like it was a reunion from the past season.

“Tailgating is very fun and exciting. It makes you feel welcome. It’s great meeting up before the game and catching up,” Barber said.

Red Sea leader Travis Schreiber-May was amazed at the supplies that they got for the tailgate.

“The donations from Walmart were amazing. Compared to past years, where we only got chips and soda. Everything was in place for a good tailgate,” Schrieber-May said.

Despite this, Schreiber-May was hoping for a better turnout of students.

“We didn’t have the numbers we expected,” Schreiber-May said.

For future tailgates the Red Sea leader would like to see more socializing amongst different groups, and not just the same people.

“I want to continue to invite new people out to the tailgates, and introducing them into the Red Sea. We should all be coming together and getting involved, that is the point of the tailgates,” Schreiber-May said.
