“Joyner had me checking the score of the [TA] game, and when I told him he went wild,” assistant coach, and former HHS student, Shane McMahan said.

Even though the Streaks ended up beating Waynesboro that night, it did not matter.

“I didn’t want to tell the players during the game because they might have slacked off knowing that they didn’t have to win the game,” Coach Joyner said.

Winning the first round bye is huge because it gives Harrisonburg the extra days of practice and they get to avoid being eliminated in the first round.

“I think this team is ready to make a run pretty deep into the playoffs, we already have regionals locked up and all we have to do is win two games there in order to make it to the state playoffs,” senior guard/forward Seth Kardos said.

The Streaks will face the winner of TA v. Broadway game, who play tonight in a battle down in Bridgewater. Harrisonburg’s game will be played in Penn Laird, which is Spotswood’s home floor. If the Streaks can beat TA or Broadway, then they will most likely play Spotswood for the district championship.
