The Fine Arts Department has announced that all Fine Arts students are eligible to take part in the trip to Chicago this spring. Students who are part of either band, choir, drama, or art are able to travel to the Windy City.
The current plans are to travel up near the end of this year’s spring break. The bus ride will be around 14 hours, which means that they will have to drive over night. Harrisonburg City Schools Fine Arts Coordinator J.R. Snow has been planning the trip for a while now.
“I think it’s a great opportunity for students to go and learn about art in a great city like Chicago,” senior Lindsay Halling said.
A main focus of the trip is to submerge students into the world of the arts. Band students will be able to see the Chicago Symphony Orchestra, while art students will visit the Art Institute of Chicago. Students who are members in more than one course in the fine arts department will have to choose which venue they want to visit, but the hope is that the schedule will work out that they will be able to experience both.
“It will be an experience to take all of the fine arts students with us,” senior Christina Sellers said.
This will be the first time that all of the Fine Arts will be traveling together.
“[I’m looking forward to] being with band kids and seeing the Chicago Symphony Orchestra,” senior Ellie Pruett said.
So far, the estimated total for the trip is about $700, but the Fine Arts teachers are trying to find ways in order to cut the cost.
