Breaking News: EMHS XC Invitational Results

Senior Erin Goodstein cheers for her JV teammates after her race.

The scores are in after the first meet of the season. At the Eastern Mennonite High School Invitational, the HHS Lady Navy finished fifth in the varsity race and second in the junior varsity race out of 17 teams. Coach David Loughran set out a detailed race-plan for his runners. The girls cut up the course into six different segments, performing different tasks during each different part of Burtner Farm’s hilly course.

Freshman Kayla Leaman was nervous for her first meet.

“We had to wait forever (to start) because someone parked their car on the course,” Leaman said.

That white subaru lead to the junior varsity girls’ race starting fifteen minutes later than scheduled, which led to the varsity girls not starting their race until 11:30 a.m., a full half hour later than originally planned.

In the varsity race, senior Erin Goodstein came in seventh overall and first for the team with a 5k time of 22:05.

“Overall, I felt stronger than I expected (during the race),” Goodstein said.

In the end, the girls were satisfied and ready to go out again to beat somebody.

“I’m excited for the season because it’s a great team, it’s fun to run, and I think we can go very far,” Leaman said.
