Freshman Wilondja Baukyaka was only five years old when he first started soccer; he joined the elementary team at the time.

“I was five years old when I started my soccer career. Once I got into soccer I felt that it helped me have more fun,” Baukyaka said.

Baukyaka has been playing soccer for ten years now and plans on participating in spring sports.

“I have been doing soccer for ten years at this point. Since I have been doing soccer for a long time  I want to get better at it and the spring sports tryouts could maybe help me improve my skills,” Baukyaka said.

Once Baukyaka heard about spring sport tryouts, he knew he wanted to try out.

“I was surprised to know that I could try out, I really wanted to try out. Since COVID[-19] started, I haven’t really gotten to play in a while, but I have been practicing whenever I have a chance,”  Baukyaka said.

Despite Baukyaka’s enthusiasm for joining a sport, he didn’t make the team.

“I was a little nervous when I tried out, but in the end it’s about the experience. I didn’t make it, I still had fun,” Baukyaka said.

Baukyaka hopes to come back stronger next year and make the team as a sophomore.

“Even though I ended up not making it, I still want to practice and that means I need to work harder, I will come back in the future and maybe next year will be the year that I make it,” Baukyaka said.
