When many people look out the window and see that it’s raining, they tend to be displeased. Rainy weather can spoil outdoor plans, making it not a very popular type of weather. However, I love rain. Not thunderstorms with the lighting and thunder, but just when it simply rains. It is my absolute favorite type of weather; even better, in my opinion than snow days. It’s sad that rain gets a bad rap, but I’m not the only one who loves the mist and the gloom; in fact, there’s actually a name for people who love rain: pluviophiles. Rain is very versatile in capabilities to help people. Here are five reasons why rain is amazing.

Reasons:

  1. The sound of rain is very calming. Ok, I cannot be the only one who uses the sound of rain to fall asleep quicker. There’s just something about the water smacking the window and the ground with such force and then disappearing just as quickly as it had come until it’s followed by another drop that is so calming to me.
  2. The perfect excuse to stay inside and read a book or watch a movie or show you’ve always wanted to see but never had the time for. Rainy weather is the best weather to stay inside and binge a really great book or show because the weather itself won’t let you out of the house, so why not take advantage.
  3. Rainy days actually increase workplace productivity. Though we may be annoyed by our water-logged commutes, we’re actually more productive in the office when it’s raining outside. A study conducted by researchers at Harvard Business School found that on rainy days, workers complete tasks in a shorter period of time than on days when skies are blue and the sun is out.
  4. Rain is essential for human life. The fresh water rain provides is essential to the survival of every living organism, from plants to animals to humans. Fresh water sources are depleted by the natural process of evaporation, and rainy days replace that lost water. Plus, it’s just so pretty when it rains!
  5. Not enough credit is given to rainy day attire. Do you remember being a little kid, having to put on your yellow raincoat and your rain boots so you could go out in the rain and jump in the puddles? Well, you’re never too old to do that. It’s absolutely one of my favorite activities when it rains. Plus, rain attire is so cute, and a rain boot should be a necessity in everyone’s closet.

Rain is underrated.
