Girls varsity soccer picks up seventh straight win

The girls varsity soccer team picked up its seventh straight win on Wednesday night with a 4-0 road win over Waynesboro. The Streaks had two goals from senior Mikaela O’Fallon and one apiece from freshman Olivia King and sophomore Ashley Iscoa.

The game had originally started on Friday, May 3 but was called with 10:52 left to play in the first half due to lightning. After waiting for the storm to pass for an hour, the team traveled back to Harrisonburg with the game scheduled to be finished the following week.

Returning to Waynesboro, the Streaks had a 2-0 lead from Friday night and needed to continue the momentum. Senior Mikaela O’Fallon notched a goal in the remainder of the first half with a direct kick just outside of the box, and the first half concluded.

The second half featured a quick connection between Iscoa and O’Fallon, who ultimately put the fourth goal into the net. The Streaks defense was able to record a shutout in the game, marking the first loss for Waynesboro in which no goals were scored.

The Streaks are now leading the Valley District with 31 total goals for the season. They will play their final district match on Friday, May 10 against Rockbridge. With a win against Rockbridge, the girls will win Districts and be seeded second going into the region tournament.
