Boys v. Girls: Not Really a Fight

So I was reading the April Newsstreak (which you all should read), and it inspired me to write this post. If you haven’t read the page on who has it better (girls or boys), you should, because it does provide some insight on the issue. It was interesting to see what people thought about this never ending problem of humanity.

Anyway, there was a story on the page ( by Luke Stephan) that didn’t not take a side! The audacity, I know! How dare he ever say that girls don’t have more crap to live through than boys? Does he want the feminists on his back? I don’t know, but what i did realize is that Stephan is right. People like to feel more sympathy than they deserve and my opinion is that one should just accept the fact that he/she is either a boy or a girl. Humanity has more things to think about than to sit there and ponder about who has it harder, because you will always have a better life than someone, but feel horrible about yourself when in comparison to, I don’t know, Bill Gates.

My advice? Be glad with you what you got! If you’re a female, enjoy the fact that you have many styles of clothing to choose from in comparison to boys (where its either shirts, shorts, or pants). Also, if you’re a girl, you will most probably outlive your male partner and get to enjoy the money he left behind! If you’re a male human, then you can boast about how you don’t get judged much about your appearance, how society looks up to you to take the lead (sometimes) and how you can act immature at whatever age! Also, males don’t have to go through the pains of childbirth
(although they do have to shave their faces as Zack McDonnel pointed out in his story).

My point out of all this is that people should stop the whining and get on with their lives. Each gender has its ups and downs and both have problems. It get annoying to hear girls saying they have it harder. Of course, it can’t be unsaid that women are denied their rights in some areas in the world, but that’s out of their government’s ignorance. Until the word is a perfect picture and earth gets replaced by Planet Utopia, people will have problems. So get over it, and like the British say, “ Keep Calm and Cary On”.

While this article holds true–that in the grand scheme of things, debating whether boys or girls have it harder is not really very groundbreaking–it is a fun topic to talk about. And especially on a high school opinion page, it garners a lot of attention for the laughs, if nothing else.

I think it’s much more interesting to participate in the debate than to say it’s a silly thing to discuss. Discussing its silliness is infinitely more silly.
