Outdoor track team competes in Valley District Championship

The HHS outdoor track team took on six other district schools in the Valley District Championships. The meet was hosted by Turner Ashby High School. Many Harrisonburg athletes ended up with personal records or season best times. Here are a few of the highlights.

 

Girl’s Team

  • Freshman Elena Luhn placed 3rd overall in the 100m dash with a personal record time of 13.27 seconds.
  • Senior Sydney Harder placed 3rd overall in the 200m dash with a season best time of 27.49 seconds.
  • Freshman Mia Constantin placed 2nd overall in the 800m run with a personal record time of 2:26.71, only 0.39 seconds away from 1st place.
  • Freshman Yodit Amine placed 4th overall in the 1600m run with a personal record of 5:48.07.
  • The 4x800m relay team placed 2nd overall with season best time of 10:33.91.
  • Senior Carissa Roberts placed 3rd overall in the triple jump with a personal record jump of 30-7.75 feet.

 

Boy’s Team

  • Freshman Isaiah Hamilton and sophomore Kie Lockhart both ran personal record times in the 100m dash. Hamilton placed 4th overall with a time of 11.86 seconds and Lockhart placed 6th overall with a time of 11.97 seconds.
  • Freshman Hayden Kirwan placed 5th overall in the 3200m run with a personal record time of 10:51.88.
  • Israel Kakule ran two personal records in both the 110m hurdles and the 300m hurdles. Kakule’s time was 16.71 seconds (3rd place overall) in the 110m hurdles and 44.61 seconds (6th place overall).
  • The 4x100m relay team composed of freshman Isaiah Hamilton, sophomores Kie Lockhart and Jacob Seefried, and junior Joel Mutambayi placed 1st overall and ran a season best time of 45.83 seconds.
  • The 4x800m relay team composed of freshman David Beck and seniors Evan Jost, Jack O’Brien, and Isaiah King placed 2nd overall with a time of 8:27.79. The 4x800m team dropped 5 seconds since their last race at the Dogwood Track Classic on May 5.
  • Junior Kyle Brown had a huge, two foot personal record in pole vault to place 3rd overall with a vault of 10-06.00 feet.

The track team will travel down to William Fleming High School in Roanoke, Virginia on May 23 to compete in the Region 5D meet. However, all of the region 4x800m relay races will be held at Harrisonburg High School after school on May 21.
