Eric Sneller teaches his sophomore STEM class about a certain building material.

There are three STEM (science, technology, engineering and math) pathways to choose in our school: math and science, technology and engineering as well as healthcare. The math and science pathway has a lot to do with nature and obviously math. For freshman Lana Ali, her pick of the math and science pathway was an easy one.

“Well it’s kinda just because I like those classes more than engineering and like I do love hands on stuff but not hands on like making rockets and all that but hands on like outdoors, nature, learning about chemicals and chemical reactions, all that stuff,” Ali said.

The technology and engineering pathway deals with many things, one of witch being the refining of metals into alloys. Freshmen Theo Grant already has a job in mind.

“I’m looking into going into material engineering, the one I’m looking into doing is more metal engineering, it’s sorta like chemistry but with metals. What you would do is use what you know about the metals to be able to combine them into alloys and new types of metals that you could use to make tools or machines and stuff like that will help us with building new technology and things like that,” Grant said.

Freshmen Frankie Garcia knows what he wants to do when he grows up. “I’ve been thinking of the taking the technology and engineering pathway because that’s more to my dream job which is automotive engineering.”

The healthcare pathway is teaching and preparing you for work in a healthcare field. No one has graduated HHS with this pathway under their belt because it is brand new this year.
