Around this time each year, fall sports to come to an end, including girls and boys JV and varsity cross country.

Both the girls and boys teams take part in unique traditions each year. The seniors pass things down to younger runners at the conclusion of the season for both teams. For the girls, they also do secret buddies, who remain anonymous throughout the season. Freshman Yodit Amine was a member of the girls cross country team this season.

“Secret buddies are when each person gets another person for a secret buddy and they bring them gifts. At the end of the season they tell [the other person] who they are,” Amine said.

First-time cross country runner Amine said that her favorite tradition and part of the season was doing secret buddies. Amine also said that she enjoyed playing games with her teammates on the way back from meets, which is something she will miss.

Amine is looking forward to indoor track in the winter, where she will run distance events.

Sophomore Tucker McGrath ran cross country this season as well. He enjoyed the beginning most.

“My favorite memory was the first day of practice when I got to run with the guys again,” McGrath said.

The cross country season ended on a high note, with freshman Mia Constantin coming out on top for HHS as she and junior Hannah Miller competed in the state meet in Warrenton, Virginia. Both placed in the top 25 for the state.
