On Friday, Jan. 14, Harrisonburg’s swim team participated in a quad-invitation between Amherst county, Fluvanna county, James Wood and Waynesboro high schools. The swim season is going better than previous season according to Coach Richard Morrell.

“We have a winning record,” Morrell said. “We have beaten several schools for the first time in six years. It’s kind of exciting for all of us.”

Harrisonburg won the diving event for the meet. There were three divers, all of whom were from Harrisonburg. Senior diver Abner Johnson is looking forward to the season and is working hard  to get back to states.

“We’ve put in a lot of hard work to get to this point,” Johnson said.

The team’s score was different than usual because of it being a quad-invitational. Each team’s score is calculated only against one of the schools alone. The men’s team beat every other men’s team, while the women defeated Amherst and Waynesboro, but lost to James Wood and Fluvanna.
