The album Channel Orange by Frank Ocean starts with a 45 second intro that sounds like anticipation. It’s a lot of talking and papers being shuffled around, and you can hear the producers turn on the equipment. There are random sounds that appear in later songs on the album, but they are more toned down. The number one song on the album is Thinkin Bout You. It talks about Frank’s obsession with a girl that he never thought he would be into. She doesn’t think he’s into her either. Fertilizer would be a really good song if it was a whole song and not 39 seconds long.

The fifth song on the album, Sweet Life, is one of my favorites. Frank Ocean’s way of making a song sound very light when it has a very deep message is extraordinary. This song touches the issue of the rich mentality. It asks ‘Why see the world, when you have the beach?’ He is obviously asking this question ironically. Another song that talks about rich people is Super Rich Kids. This song features Earl Sweatshirt. It is so powerful in the way that it talks about the troubles of the rich kid life. Super Rich Kids teaches that life is more than material things. If you have it all, but you’re missing your parents’ affection and your friends only like you for your things, you have nothing.

The thirteenth song on the album is Monks. It just describes how everyone wants what they can’t have. Songs thirteen through sixteen are gems. Bad Religion has an amazing instrumental track. Pink Matter poses interesting questions and features André 3000, whose voice is incredibly smooth. Forrest Gump is just a fun song with interesting timing. Words come out of his mouth a beat after you expect them to. Overall, Channel Orange is an amazing album with great messages and great music. Frank Ocean is very musically talented and his talent has not gone to waste.
