What do you like most about this school?
I like the good teachers. They care about you.I also have a lot of friends here.

How is HHS different from schools you’ve been to in the Middle East?
The school here is bigger, the school days are also longer. But here it’s easier to learn because it’s safer.

What are the cultural differences you are seeing?
There are a lot of people here that come from a lot of different places and there isn’t a lot of racism in this school.

What is the hardest thing for you about living in the Unites States?
You have to get used to [living here]. Learn to communicate with others. You have to learn how to talk like people here do.

What are your goals now that you live here?
I want to go into computer science and here I have the opportunity to do that.

How long have you been here?
This will be my second year.

I learn here, and I see my friends. I can get a better future.

How is HHS different than other schools you have been to in the Middle East?
This school is bigger and the teaching here is also much better.

What are the cultural differences you are seeing?
Here, we have more freedom.

What is the hardest part about living in the United States?
Language is a big difference. Life in general is also very different,  the buildings, the streets and the people.

What are your goals now that you live here?
I want to go to college and become an engineer.

I have been here for a year and a couple months.

What do you like most about this school?

Freshman Sally Imran

I like this school because it helps me. I wan to learn the language and a lot of other things. I’m also getting experience for the real world. I have the opportunity to become what ever I want to be.


How is HHS different from other schools you have been to in the Middle East?

I’ve been to school in Iraq. There, schools are not as good. I didn’t learn a lot there. It was hard because we didn’t have buses. Teachers here are also better.


What are the cultural differences you are seeing?
Freedom. In Iraq, they even tell you what to wear. Here we can do what we want. Here, you’re more comfortable.

What is the hardest thing about living in the United States?

I’m not around my mom a lot. She has to work all day, but we have to give to receive. I’m trying to learn all the new ways of this country.

What are your goals now that you live here?
I want to be an interior designer. I also want to learn English and Spanish.

How long have you been here?
5 months.
