Released on July 27, 2010 after over a decade of waiting, Starcraft 2: Wings of Liberty is already the best selling PC game of 2010.
The sequel to the best selling real-time strategy game of all time, Starcraft: Brood War brings exceptional graphics and sounds in addition to deep gameplay.
The graphics in Starcraft 2 offer remarkable detail, vivid colors, and diligently designed buildings, units, and effects (i.e. explosions). In fact the graphics are so remarkable that the game has been known to overheat a graphics card or two.
In addition to the graphics, Blizzard, the company that developed Starcraft 2, creates the sound of an interstellar war and offers fitting background music.
While its graphics and sounds are definitely worth noting, what really makes the game worthwhile is its gameplay. Starcraft 2 offers deep strategy, pushing the player’s ability to multitask and micromanage each aspect of his or her forces. Consequently the game has a somewhat steep learning curve and can be overwhelming for people new to real-time strategy. However, Blizzard offers varying levels of difficulty in the single player modes, and a matchmaking system that tries to ensure that newer players have a fair chance.
Beyond the great visual and audio and the intriguing gameplay, Starcraft 2 is just fun. Win or lose it is a good time.
