Juicy J concert at JMU attracts large audience of HHS students

Last fall, Juicy J’s album release Stay Trippy proved to be a huge hit among Juicy J’s fan base, and made him double as well known than he was before. When Juicy J announced he was coming to the convocation center for part of his Stay Trippy tour, chaos swept through JMU and the city of Harrisonburg as folks tried to obtain a ticket for the event. Floor tickets were sold out less than 24 hours after they went for sale, and the rest of the tickets were sold not long after that.
The concert was opened by Sage the Gemini (also a recent hip hop and rap artist), who sang his most popular songs “Red Nose” and “Gas Pedal”. He also came down to the floor section and touched all of the people in the first row and took an instagram ‘selfie’ with the entire crowd.
After about a thirty minute wait, Juicy J came onto the stage, and the center boomed with people’s shouts of excitement and the music. Sophomore Nia Flury wasn’t too happy about the delay.
“It made me kind of mad, like he took long enough for me to get my seat stolen and almost get kicked out,” Flury said.
Juicy J sang just about all of his songs on his new album, Stay Trippy, with the most popular ones being “Bandz A Make Her Dance”, “Bounce It”, and “Money A Do It”. He also performed his part in Katy Perry’s popular song, “Dark Horse”, which was featured during the Grammy’s. Juicy J next reminded the crowd that although he has made a big break recently with his Stay Trippy album, he has been around since the 2000’s so, along with his newer songs, the rapper also performed songs from his 36 Mafia days, including the Academy Award winning song “It’s Hard Out Here For A Pimp” and “Hustle Till I Die”, from a 2009 album of his.
Senior Camille Cummings considers herself a very dedicated Juicy J fan, and loved the concert.
“Everyone in the concert was so hype and having a good time, it was weird if you were just standing around… It was great,” Cummings said.
Senior Paul Kim was able to obtain a first row floor seat for the concert, so he got to see all the action up close and personal, and was within hand’s touch of Juicy J and Sage the Gemini.
“I have gone to a lot of concerts before and have never been that close to the artist. It definitely made the experience 100 times better,” Kim said.
Junior Erin Davis attended the concert specifically for Sage the Gemini, and enjoyed his performance the most.
“Everyone was dancing and the best part of the concert was it was just like a huge party,” Davis said.
“Live” is the word used by both sophomore Nia Shury and junior Erin Davis to describe the event.
Sage the Gemini and Juicy J surely lived up to their expectation at the JMU Convocation Center’s concert.
