App of the Week: Clementine Audio Player

Rafael Snell-Feikema, Online Editor-in-Chief

It’s time for another computer app (spoiler – it’s because I don’t actually have a phone), and so I thought I’d review one of my most used applications.

I listen to music constantly, and as such it’s pretty much a necessity that I have a well-functioning music player. It was a long struggle to find a good one: WinAmp is bloated (and now dead), Windows Media Player is… an included Windows utility (read: absolutely awful), iTunes is a bit clunky and filled with Apple garbage, VLC has no library support, Foobar2000 seems to have been programmed by a gorilla on allergy medication and so on.

And then I found Clementine. It is a thing of beauty. It is open source, has a clean and unimposing library system, includes tagging software, manages devices, and has perfect audio quality and playback. It even finds lyrics and last.fm artist information for you. And scrobbles. Anything you could want, Clementine does.

Added bonus: it looks nice.

Download Clementine here for Windows, Mac or basically any Linux distribution.
