December 17, 2013
Beyoncé Knowles released her fifth studio album last Friday Dec. 13th. This unexpected move from the 32 year old R&B singer was her first album in the past two years. Deborah Halpern, a senior at Harrisonburg High and die-hard Beyoncé fan, was excited when she found out Beyoncé dropped.
“I was really excited, I love Beyoncé, and the fact that it’s a visual album makes it that much better. She makes the best music videos,” Halpern said.
The self-titled album Beyoncé is a two part endeavor has one audio and one visual part; the whole experience amounts to just about 3 hours of content. Part one consists of 14 songs, with features artists Drake, Chimamanda Ngozi Adichie, Frank Ocean, Jay Z and even their daughter Blue Ivy. Part two is the visual aspect, it presents 15 videos –one for each song—with the exception of ”Yoncé” and “Partition” getting their own videos, a bonus video “Grown Woman” and a credits video.
This album follows 4, her fourth album, which, won her R&B Album of the Year at the 2012 Billboard Music Awards, the song “Love on Top” won Best Traditional R&B Performance award at the 55th annual Grammy Awards and nominations at the 2011 American Music Awards, the 2011 Soul Train Music Awards, the 38th People’s Choice Awards, the 43rd NAACP Image Awards and the 2012 Grammys.
