With HHS Homecoming coming up, there are many events that will be taking place. In two of those events, the HHS colorguard will be performing. Sophomore Ellie Ephraim is in her second year with the team.
“A couple of my friends actually told me, and they were in a grade above me, so they’re juniors right now. They were like, ‘Hey, you should do this, because I think you would be interested,’” Ephraim said.
The colorguard is performing in the homecoming pep rally and in the halftime and pre game shows of the homecoming football game. Ephraim is especially excited about the pep rally performance.
“I feel pretty good about it. I think we’ll do really well, and I’m pretty happy for it,” Ephraim said.
She is very passionate about what she does with the colorguard, which made her want to continue into her second year.
“I think the best part about color guard is that we get to convey so much meaning through dance and movement and our flags and it’s a great way to show emotion and exercise, and it also builds community. I think you make a lot of new friends when you join something as large as a marching band,” Ephraim said.
Sophomore Kaylee Imfield is in her first year with the HHS colorguard, so she is making her debut in the homecoming performances.
“My favorite part is definitely just performing and being able to show off what we work so hard on and just be around a community that cares about you,” Imfield said.
Though she is performing in the homecoming events for the first time, she has gone to a few competitions with the band already, which includes the Parade of Champions at JMU.
“We got one of our highest scores at a competition that we have had since 2005,” Imfield said.
You can see them perform at the HHS football game and pep rally on Friday, October 17th.
