App of the Week: Aurasma brings augmented reality to smartphones
November 23, 2013
“What’s your Aura?” asks the new interactive viewing tool app, Aurasma. This app gives people the ability to bring tagged images to life by using trigger images. These pictures have been programed and made into “Auras”, which means that when a phone is placed in front of them, the image turns into this video that creates a fascinating story. Take a dollar bill, for example. With the Aurasma app, you can place your phone in front of the dollar and it will completely come to life. It creates this video of Kennedy making a speech, and music will start to play in the background while words are becoming 3D. If you’ve ever seen Harry Potter, picture the way the “Daily Prophet” prints photos, they are more like videos. That’s what Aurasma does! It makes the everyday image turn into a 3D video. Using this app, you can create scavenger hunts using tagged images to link clues together, add 3D images to 2D settings, and send video messages to friends. You can get Aurasma for free in the App Store or the Google Play Store.
