On Wednesday, March 12, students gathered in the library for food and discussion. The event brought together members from different clubs, including the Asian Student Association, the Black Student Union, and the Spanish Club, creating a feeling of community and unity. Students shared dishes from different cultures, making everyone feel welcome.
Spanish teacher Margaret Romero, who attended the event, was deeply impressed by the students’ dedication. “The event was amazing! I was so impressed with the students involved in creating this event, and also when the guest speaker canceled at the last minute, they were able to pivot and create a really meaningful event on their own,” Romero said.
Beyond the food, the discussion on immigration moved many deeply, “People are stressed right now about how immigration crackdowns are affecting our community. Students want to support each other and know exactly what their rights are as a person living in this country. Knowledge is empowering,” Romero added.
A highlight of the event was a discussion circle where students openly shared their thoughts about the topic. “The best part of the event was the circle. We had such an open and honest discussion about immigration. It was just a starting point, though I am looking forward to more collaboration within our amazing clubs,” Romero reflected.
This event was a step toward deeper understanding, about the importance of this topic, clearing up misconceptions, and helped people understand what to do in different situations involving immigration.
