The HHS JV Girls soccer team is starting off their season with several scrimmages. These are helping them prepare for the games they will be playing later on. They played against Louisa County and won 4-3 March 11.
Kriti Sah is a freshman on the JV team, and this is her first year playing soccer. Since this is her first time playing soccer, Sah is exploring different positions on the field. She has been playing winger and center midfielder.
“[I joined soccer] because I wanted to participate in an after-school activity,” Sah said.
Lucy Hunter is also a freshman on the soccer team, and unlike Sah, she prefers playing goalie. Hunter has been playing soccer for as long as she can remember.
“[I tried out for soccer] because I’ve been playing my whole life,” Hunter said.
Before the scrimmage, these athletes had different feelings about how well the team would do. Hunter felt excited, but Sah was feeling more anxious.
“[I’m] nervous because I don’t think we’re gonna do well,” Sah said.
The scrimmage ended up going much better than Sah expected since the JV team won. All four goals were scored by eighth-grade athletes, but freshman Adamari Soto Huerta assisted a goal.
“It felt amazing because I felt like all my training was put to good use,” Soto Huerta said.
Soto Huerta decided to join soccer because her family has a history with soccer and she wanted to give it a try. She was happy with the outcome of the scrimmage.
“I felt pretty good because in our last scrimmage, we did decent, and I feel like we improved on some things this time,” Soto Huerta said. “That definitely says something about our team.”
