Every year hundreds gather to celebrate the Veteran’s Day Parade. This year, Sunday Oct. 10, it was no different, featuring the Harrisonburg High School band and JROTC marching in the parade. At the front rolled a few police motorcycles, followed by the JROTC. Following the JROTC was the color guard and the Grand Marshal of the parade, Edwin J. Newman, who had spent time both in the U.S. Army and the HHS band. Sophomore Brian Frank marched as part of the JROTC cadets.

“I enjoyed representing the school in honoring the veterans. I enjoy hearing their side of the story and their personal accounts instead of just learning about it in history class,” Frank said

Senior Ben Hill participated in the HHS marching band. Hill’s favorite part slightly different than Frank’s.

“I enjoyed just the energy of the crowd and the excitement of the band. The parade was a good way to celebrate Veteran’s Day. Band members should have to participate because it shows respect.” Hill said.

Overall the parade didn’t get as good of a turn out as a parade like the Holiday Parade, but it still was enjoyed by most spectators.

Despite the Veteran’s day parade’s lesser turnout than that of the Holiday parade, the crowd were still buzzing with enjoyment and respect for those who served the country.
